A Yag capsulotomy is a laser treatment that helps to improve your vision after cataract surgery. The most common complication of cataract surgery is posterior capsule opacification, or clouding of the lens capsule that covers the eye. A Yag capsulotomy is a common, relatively simple procedure that removes any clouding of the lens inside of your eye. As with any surgery, there is always some risk, however the procedure is considered very safe. Dr. Contreras performs this procedure in his office with a special laser.

Corneal erosion syndrome, or RCES, is a common eye disorder characterized by an erosion, or breakdown, of the outermost corneal epithelial cells. RCES can cause eye pain, light sensitivity, and even lead to scarring on the cornea. Dr. Contreras is an expert in all areas of eye care and can treat RCES using eye lubricants, prescription medications and/or antibiotics, or surgery if necessary.

A visual field study is a test that measures your ability to see. Besides your central vision, the test can detect changes in your side, or peripheral vision. This test can also be used to diagnose and test the severity of glaucoma. A visual field study test only takes minutes and is completely painless.

Eye floaters are strands of protein or collagen, much like cobwebs, that can float in the fluid inside your eye. You can see them when they cast a shadow onto the retina. The eye contains a gel-like fluid called vitreous that can increase as we age because they tend to clump together.

Floaters can move into you field of vision, but can only be seen when your eyes are not moving. That is why they appear to move away when you move your eyes. They are not harmful, but if they occur suddenly, or in large numbers, they can signal a serious eye disorder and need to be evaluated immediately.

Blepharitis is an inflammation of the eyelids, caused by bacteria that live at the base of your eyelashes. When the follicles become clogged, your eyes become red and irritated, and may appear as if you have dandruff-like flakes, or a discharge around your eyelids. It is not contagious and does not normally cause any damage to your vision.
