Meet Dr. Claudio Contreras
Ophthalmologist in San Jose, California
"My father is a retired general surgeon, so I was exposed to the field of medicine at an early age. When I was diagnosed with myopia at 12 years of age, I remember how impressed I was with all the equipment the ophthalmologist had in his office. Still, it wasn't until I was in college that I realized I wanted to be an ophthalmologist. I was fortunate to fulfill my dream of becoming an eye physician after starting my career as an internist.
Because of my training in both internal medicine and ophthalmology, I don't see patients as eye problems; but rather I see patients as persons with medical conditions, one of them being an eye disease. My patients' general health is just as important as their eye health. My experience as an internist helps me to never forget this."
